R/EVOLUTION: OVERHAULING FASHION’S OUTMODED SUPPLY CHAIN

Daniele Arioldi, President of ICA, is among the speakers of the Sourcing Journal Summit 2020.

There’s little 2020 hasn’t thrown at fashion supply chains. A pandemic. A shutdown. A supply crisis. A demand crisis. A social uprising. Furthermore, the future predicted a decade ago as far off–one where resources are in jeopardy, waste is choking the environment and climate change is rearing its head–is here now.

But despite the foresight, fashion hasn’t kept pace and is still ill equipped to address the current needs. And the sole certainty in the midst of so much upheaval is this: it is past time for supply chains to be entirely overhauled. Now, a slow crawl toward change will prove a swift ticket to irrelevance. The fashion industry is in a dire situation that only sweeping cultural change, targeted innovation and swift action can address. It’s time for fashion’s R/Evolution, a renewal of the supply chain of the fashion industry: this is the topic of the Virtual Sourcing Summit 2020, R/Evolution: Overhauling Fashion’s Outmoded Supply Chain.

The Virtual Sourcing Summit will unite thought leaders from around the world to reveal the new tools for rebuilding everything from sustainability, seasonality and social compliance, to product development, demand planning and purpose. Join us as we outline the opportunities that will come from taking bold steps toward rewriting fashion’s roadmap.

During the summit, the panel entitled Forensic Files: Accounting for Authenticity in Premium Fibers will see the contributions of Daniele Arioldi, CEO and President of ICA, Ben Tomkins, Senior Business Development Manager of Oritain, and Marc Lewkowitz, CEO and President of Supima. The three speakers will talk about their project and will discuss how forensic science and statistical analysis can be used to maintain quality, protect the integrity of the brand and promote sustainability from raw materials to the point of sale. For premium brands, in fact, authenticity is everything, but without transparency, consumers cannot be sure that the products purchased truly keep the promise of the brand. In this sense, scientific traceability is not only a guarantee of the origin, but also of the quality and ethical and sustainable production of the product.
